After 95 faithful years of serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Elizabeth Maria (Betty) Boyer passed into His presence on Tuesday afternoon, December 8, 2009.

 

Betty was born in Kenosha, WI in 1914 to recent Swedish immigrants, Erick and Hilda Soderberg.  She and her husband Wendell, started the People’s Church in Beloit in 1942 and continued as pastors there until the retired in 1983.  Her gifts of music and Bible teaching impacted many Beloiters over the years.  After retirement Betty served as a RSVP volunteer and volunteered at the Beloit Hospital.  At the time of her death she was the accompanist for the “Goldenaires” and often played for Sing-a-longs at various nursing homes in the area.

 

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother-in-law Loren Weeden, Betty leaves two children Rev. Wayne (Kay) of Lancaster, PA, and Karen (Harold) Shortenhaus of Delavan, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  She was survived by her sister, Edythe (Deed) Weeden of Beloit and the Rev. Robert (Beverly) Soderberg of Tennessee.

 

The funeral will be held at the people’s Church on West Grand Ave. at 11:00 on Friday with family visitation beginning at 9:00 until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Cemetery in South Beloit.

 

The family requests that donations be made in her memory to the People’s Church Missions Fund.
