Marvel L. Mattox, 86 of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit, WI.   She was born July 16, 1922 in Slater, IA, the daughter of  William and Inger Severtson Powell. She was Valedictorian of Slater High School in Slater, Iowa and  married  Carroll Mattox on November 20, 1940 in Polk City, IA.  He predeceased her on  May 10, 2001. She and her husband were active participants in the start up of the People’s Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School.   Marvel was a volunteer for many organizations including R.S.V.P at Beloit City Hall, Rock County Fair and the Grange of Turtle Township.   She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, sketching landscapes, crafts and baking cookies for family and friends.

 

Marvel is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Ralph) Bovee of Beloit, WI, Karyn Schultz of Ft. Collins, CO; three sons, Stephen (Carol) Mattox of Lubbock, TX, Ronald Pettit of Rockford, IL and Daniel Mattox of Beloit, WI; 11 grandchildren, Cynthia Bovee, Candace (Michael) Johns both of Beloit, WI, Jeffrey Bovee of Thailand, Melany (David) McGrath of IN, Sheryl (Lee) Gasparik of W. VA, Derek (Johanna) Schultz of CO, Colleen (Andy) Keppley of PA, Brian Mattox of TX, Brandon (Jamie) Mattox of TX, Patricia Austin of WI and Luke Mattox of Beloit, WI; 23 great grandchildren and many friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carroll, a granddaughter, Krista, a great granddaughter, Brittany and her sister, Linda Lou Powell.

 

Marvel’s funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, in the People’s Church, 340 W. Grand Avenue, with the Reverend Ron Anderson officiating.  Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL.   Friends may greet the family from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2009, in the SCHOENFELD – MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, WI and on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service in the People’s Church.   

 

A memorial fund has been established in Marvel’s name to People’s Church Mission Fund.
