Age 71, died unexpectedly Friday January 9, 2009 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Harlan was born February 25, 1937 to the late Sam & Viola (Zinmaster) Schut in Valentine, NE. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1955 and farmed in the Clinton area. He married the former Edna Mesman on September 12, 1958 in Springfield, South Dakota. Harlan was drafted into the US Army in 1959 and served his county until his honorable discharge in 1962. His military service included a tour of duty in Germany. He was a longtime active member of Emmanuel Reformed Church serving as a Deacon and Elder. Harlan also sang for 25 years in the Emmanuel’s Men Quartet. He worked for Warner Electric as a Machinist for 31 years until his retirement in 1999. Harlan loved to fish and golf and was often seen enjoying an afternoon bike ride. His greatest pride was his four wonderful grandchildren. Time spent with his four precious angels were some of his happiest days. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edna Schut of Clinton; two sons, Russell (Sara) Schut of Clinton and their two children, Bryan & Jarod, Curtis (Debra) Schut of Janesville and their two children, Casey & Maggie; two brothers, Harold (Janis) Schut of Janesville and Allen (Holly) Schut of Brandon; his sister Bonnie (John) Schoville of Clinton and many friends and neighbors.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Harlan’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the EMMANUEL REFORMED CHURCH, 319 East Street, Clinton with Rev. Clyde Rensink officiating. Friends will be received on Monday at Church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The cortege will process to Clinton Cemetery for interment and committal prayers following the service. All are welcome to join the family for luncheon and fellowship at Church following the burial.
